Pre-Recorded Classes

  • Join us to explore the world of creative writing with a purr-fectly fun, cat-themed twist! Taught by award-winning authors, this class dives into fiction, personal essays, poetry, and literary devices—all using cat-based examples that are sure to spark young imaginations.

In each of twelve pre-recorded video sessions, students will explore a new creative writing skill, from crafting characters and building story worlds to using metaphors and writing short poems. The teacher will introduce the day’s topic with cat-themed examples, guide students through interactive discussions, and then it’s time to write! Kids will spend time creating their own stories, poems, or essays—each inspired by our lovable feline friends.

  • A gentle, fun introduction to storytelling, this class is perfect for the budding writer who needs a little help clarifying their ideas as well as students who need to grow their writing confidence.

  • In this class, students will learn the basics of plot, character, description, and conflict– but above all else have fun and play with words and writing as they each create their own Wings of Fire short story. Writing within a familiar world is not only fun, but can be a great way to learn the basics of writing and critical reading in an established place that students are already enthusiastic about.

Over six pre-recorded videos, I’ll discuss the basics of writing using the 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘦 series as an example– like studying plot by discussing Tsunami’s story, or character by thinking on Queen Scarlet. Each student will then apply this new knowledge to their own Wings of Fire short story, which they will work on throughout the six week period. The short story can be about whatever they choose– some students choose to write about a totally new tribe or continent, while others like to delve into untold backstories about existing characters. Students will share their story progress each week with the teacher and get feedback during class time.

    • 6 weeks plus 4 weeks of additional teacher support

    • 6 prerecorded lessons

    • Feedback on writing from the teacher

  • Dream up, plan, write, and edit your own short story! For all skill and enthusiasm levels.

I’m Jackson

I'm the author of a whole mess of books for kids— like the Ellie, Engineer series, the Pip Bartlett series, and the Doublecross series.

I’m also a teacher! I’ve taught over 10,000 kids online, and another few thousand in person at schools, libraries, camps, and seminars across the world.

Some of those kids are avid and enthusiastic writers, but many of them are reluctant writers, or even self-proclaimed writing-haters. Their adults sign them up for my classes, often with some variation on the following request: Make my kid love writing.

To which I respond: Absolutely. We can do this.
