Wings of Fire
Creative Writing Camp
$127 per week-long session
In this camp, we’ll complete a different Wings of Fire activity each day! Perfect for mega-fans and newcomers to the series alike.
On day one, we'll chat about how the various tribes in the 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘦 series are inspired by real life animals, and how each dragon tribe is ideally suited to their habitat. Students will then be asked to spend some time after class inventing their own new dragon tribe to share with the class the following day!
On day two, students will spend class time sharing the dragons they created the night before. Everyone will be encouraged to give and receive supportive feedback. After class, students will receive a video from me discussing how to create a history, homeland, and a culture for their dragon tribes, which they'll present in class on day three. Who are their tribes allied with, and why? Where do they live in Pyrrhia? Do they have any special traditions or holidays?
On day three, students will share their tribe histories during class and, once again, be encouraged to give and receive feedback. They will then receive a video from me discussing the basics of creating an interesting character with a fascinating backstory, and the importance of characters having families, pasts, and dreams. Students will be asked to invent a dragon character in their new tribe to present on day four.
On day four, students will present the dragon character they created. We'll chat about each character's strengths and flaws as a group. Homework will be to create an outline of a story about their dragon character, or to write a short scene with their dragon character-- examples of both options will be posted in the classroom.
On day five, students will read their story aloud and get feedback from both their teacher and their classmates!
This class is perfect for fans of the book who want to talk and create all things Wings of Fire. Having read the entire series is not necessary, and that we do our very best to keep spoilers at bay!
Wings of Fire is written by Tui T. Sutherland, illustrated by Joy Ang, and published by Scholastic.
