Kitty Cat Creative Writing
Join us each week to explore the world of creative writing with a purr-fectly fun, cat-themed twist! Taught by award-winning authors, this class dives into fiction, personal essays, poetry, and literary devices—all using cat-based examples that are sure to spark young imaginations.
This is an ongoing class— students may join or drop at any time, as material does not build week-to-week.
Each week, students will explore a new creative writing skill, from crafting characters and building story worlds to using metaphors and writing short poems. The teacher will introduce the day’s topic with cat-themed examples, guide students through interactive discussions, and then it’s time to write! Kids will spend time creating their own stories, poems, or essays—each inspired by our lovable feline friends.
At the end of class, students are welcome (but not required) to share their creations with their classmates.
Some “pawsome” examples of what we might cover in class:
Task: Write a Fictional Adventure Starring A Cat!
Imagine a cat as the hero of a thrilling story. Are they a daring explorer, a brave detective, or maybe even a sneaky spy?
Task: Write a Poem About a Cat’s Day
Write a short poem capturing the highlights of a cat’s day—like sunbathing, chasing toys, and midnight prowling.
Task: Describe A Cat’s Personality Using Metaphors
Is your cat a fluffy cloud, a mischievous shadow, or a furry tornado? Learn to use metaphors to capture their unique personality!
Task: Create a Cat’s Diary Entry
Imagine your cat kept a secret diary! Write an entry describing their latest adventure, from sneaking into forbidden rooms to observing mysterious humans. What would your cat think is the most thrilling part of their day?
With new lessons each week, the Kitty Cat Creative Writing Club is the perfect way to build writing skills in a fun, low-pressure environment! This class is best for learners who are able to write at least somewhat independently.
