Weekly Poetry Writing (Teen/Tween)

$21.00

A fun, low-stress class for all things poetry. In this class, students will learn about and try writing a new poetry style each week.

We'll take a look at a poem written in the given style, and discuss how it's put together, then spend about twenty minutes writing our own poems in the same style. If anyone gets stuck, not to worry-- the teacher will help students overcome writers block and get back on track! Students are invited to share their poems with their peers at the end of class, though this is not required.

Poetry is a great form of literature for reluctant writers, but can also provide a fun challenge for avid writers. This class aims to be informative but also fun and low-stress; a place for writers of all experiences levels to play with their ideas in a structured way.

Because each class serves as a complete lesson, students are welcome to join for as long as they'd like, drop out when needed, and join again-- the course was created with schedule flexibility in mind.

Here are some examples of the types of poems we'll create in class--

Cinquain

Concrete

Free Verse

Haiku

Cross-Out/Found

Sonnet
